When design has a conscience. It’s been almost 20 years since the First Things First Manifesto was updated for the 21st Century and still remains somewhat of a dichotomy for some. As a Graphic Designer in the commercial world we can often accept that a large part of your soul is sold. Whether working independently or you have managed to secure your dream job working on large global brands; how much does your own ethical and moral stance interfere in your decision making? Not simply in the ideas you produce but whether you are in a position to turn down lucrative commissions because you don’t agree with the message. The Manifesto’s writer and Graphic Designer, Ken Garland gives an honest interview below.
